What is the best way of preventing / defending against pancaking in the lineout after the receiver has caught the ball?
Drew
Can you explain what you mean by "Pancaking" as I would hate to guess wrongly!
Simon
Hi Simon, Ahhh . . . north american or at least western canadian terminology . . . 'pancaking'- pulling the receiving jumper down to the ground once his feet hit the ground (prior to a maul being formed) to prevent a driving maul from forming. I can see the likelihood of other confusion . .. thanks. Drew
Drew
OK I understand now!
The best way to stop the opposition doing this to your team is for the catcher to slip the ball to a supporting player as he lands from the jump. The supporting player receiving the ball will be protected from the opposition by the jumper and so the point of attack changes and the opposition have to react all over again.
I hope this helps
Simon
